Takes a Little Time (with song by Amy Grant)

You are not going done, me either.

“It” takes a little time, sometimes a long time, to turn things around.

But we’ve got this.

Have you ever been in a hurry to get anything done? This could be a change we want to make in our life, thinking or actions. This could also be a job or a project. But it takes time.

“Give it time. Be patient.”

Yep, the last thing we want to hear when we want to change is to “be patient” we want to create the changes we know matter to us, and sooner is better, so we think, however, t it takes time. We will need to keep doing what works for us. That may be prayer, journaling, meditation, art, or whatever works for our spiritual and emotional growth. It takes time. We may need to reach out to a friend, family member, clergy, counselor, or teacher.

We did not get where we are overnight and will likely not get to a different place overnight. In the time it takes, so much can happen that we did not expect. We can learn lessons, grow in different ways than anticipated, and even meet new people building relationships that can enrich our lives and theirs for years to come. We never know what may come our way. Being aware, open, and alert sure helps.

Sometimes, the hardest things to change are our thoughts. Our thoughts can create much of our life experiences. Taking time to learn, recognize, understand, and even accept what we are thinking can significantly change our lives in every area. If we need to make changes in our thought patterns, we can. We may need some guidance, but we can make the necessary changes if we are willing.

Amy Grant’s song, Takes a Little Time song on Behind the Eyes album (1997) reminds us, “It”, whatever “it” may be for you and me, takes time. We are not going down; we’ve got this. Hold on. Know it takes time.

Listen, relax, and breathe.

You are moving forward.

You are alive.

You will know what to do in time. Time is precious. No need to fight or judge it; go with it. Stay alert, and aware, and never give up.

As Amy reminds us, we are not going down! It takes time. We will get our feet back on the ground. You and I  are alive even when we know we are not meeting our needs right now. So, we are both meeting one basic need, Staying Alive. (Thank you! We need YOU.)

You may have others in your world to love you and support you that you are having difficulty receiving right now, or maybe they are absent, even if physically present. You can love yourself. That matters. You are worth loving. The same is true for me too.

Take a few minutes to listen, ponder the words, and smile. You are going to get through this in time. There will be a different side to life. It takes time, but time is on your side. You’ve got this. We’ve got this.

We each go through challenging times. If this is your challenging time, reach out.  We all need a hand at times. If you are not in a difficult time, look around and see if anyone you see may need a hand. This could be someone you know or an organization that needs volunteers or support. There is often someone, someplace we can reach out and help. This can often help us too.

Enjoy the song.

Here are the lyrics for you also. Amy’s work continues to give us life, hope, peace, and sometimes the understanding we need. May she continue to know what a gift she is to many she may never meet and her family.

Takes a Little Time

[Verse 1]
It takes a little time sometimes
To get your feet back on the ground
It takes a little time sometimes
To get the Titanic turned back around
It takes a little time sometimes
But baby, you’re not going down
It takes more than you’ve got right now
Give it, give it time

[Verse 2]
What’s this walking through my door
I know I’ve seen the look before
Sometimes on faces in the street
And sometimes in the mirror looking back at me
You can’t fix this pain with money
You can’t rush a weary soul
You can’t sweep it under the rug, now honey
It don’t take a lot to know

[Chorus]
It takes a little time sometimes
To get your feet back on the ground
It takes a little time sometimes
To get the Titanic turned back around
It takes a little time sometimes
But baby, you’re not going down
It takes more than you’ve got right now
Give it, give it time
Yeah, give it time

[Verse 3]
But it may not be over by morning
And Rome wasn’t built in a day
You can name that thing a thousand times
It won’t make it go away
Let me put my arms around you
And hold you while you weep
We’ve been talking and you know what
I’m sick of this talk
It’s nothing that won’t keep

[Chorus]
It takes a little time sometimes
To get your feet back on the ground
It takes a little time sometimes
To turn the Titanic around
It takes a little time sometimes
But baby, you’re not going down
It takes more than you’ve got right now
Give it, give it time

[Bridge]
It takes a little more time, more time
(Turn the Titanic around) Turn it around, around, around
(Baby you’re not going down) Take a little time sometimes

You can’t fix this pain with money
You can’t rush a weary soul
You can’t sweep it under the rug, now honey
But it don’t take a lot to know

[Chorus]
It takes a little time sometimes
To get your feet back on the ground
It takes a little time sometimes
To turn the Titanic around
It takes a little time sometimes
But baby, you’re not going down
You got things to think of now
So give it, give it time
Give it, give it time

[Outro]
It takes a little time sometimes
It takes a little time sometimes
It takes a little time to get your feet back on the ground
Baby, you’re not going down
