Big Dreams and Faded Jeans (Dolly Parton song included)

Blog: Big Dreams and Faded Jeans

Dolly Parton is a legend. She amazes me and inspires me. Her song “Big Dreams and Faded Jeans” is another hit for me. Her life exemplifies the title of this song. We can live this too! Listen to the words and think of how many of The 5 Needs you can see in this one song.

In the wee hours of the morning, we can dream. We can plan. We can imagine a dream far off, unseen by others but real to us, alive in our hearts. Real as real can be to us. It is our dream. We have Big Dreams and Faded jeans! We can see our dreams become realities. Dolly sure has! We can too and we will see some of The 5 needs if we look for them as we take our life’s journey. Let’s consider what we may discover as we travel on our path with out big dreams.

Power comes to mind, for starters. We can use our dreams to give us the power to become what we want to be and do the work we want to do. Our big dreams can be powerful if we listen and act on them. Sure, timing is essential, but don’t give up. Even if we must wait, we can still dream.

Freedom and boundaries are also a part of big dreams. We may think we have the freedom to do what we want, and we do, but we also want to consider what boundaries would be helpful too. Boundaries can keep us safe as we seek ways to live our dreams. Sometimes we must prepare and work at a job that is not our dream job to save money to make a move. We might need to move to another city or state. We might need to leave the organization we are currently working with, but we need to have resources to support ourselves, so we may need to set boundaries for ourselves. A boundary could look like a timeline, a set amount of money saved before we move.

Often, we need to love and believe in ourselves to follow our dreams. Yet, at times we learn to love and trust ourselves more and more as we make plans and determine how to follow our dreams. Making actionable steps, spending time thinking about goals, and setting up ways to meet them can help us respect ourselves and appreciate the work we are doing too.  It is possible we will also find the need for belonging as we meet others who will help our dreams come true. We will likely build relationships along the way and a sense of community.

I suspect there will be fun times on the journey for our “Big Dreams and Faded Jeans.” Hardships may also happen, but I suspect there will be fun, laughter, and surprises. Staying alive may even seem challenging if our resources are low but staying alive is a no-brainer to have big dreams and live to fulfill them. One day, if we keep on going, our dreams will not be off in the distance, but bright and alive in our hands. If we need a bit of inspiration, we can pull up the life of Dolly Parton and be inspired! She has lived it out, all five of the needs we share and conintues to do so too!

Let’s Dream Big. Follow our hearts.

Enjoy our journey with an eye open to how we are meeting each of the needs in our life too.

May this song help us along our own paths and help us help one another too.

THANK YOU, DOLLY! You guide us with your songs! You inspire us as you live out what you sing, write and say. THANK YOU Dolly Parton! We love you and appreciate you. Thank you for dreaming big and showing us how to live out our dreams.

Lyrics From Google search:

Big Dreams and Faded Jeans

Put on my jeans, my favorite shirt
Pull up my boots and hit the dirt
Finally doin’ somethin’ I’ve dreamed of for years

Don’t know quite what to expect
A little scared, but what the heck
My desire is always greater than my fear

Big dreams and faded jeans
Fit together like a team
Always busting at the seams
Big dreams and faded jeans

Just my old guitar and me
Out to find my destiny
Nashville is the place to be
For big dreams and faded jeans

Put out my thumb and wish for luck
To hitch a car, a semi-truck
Sooner or later one will catch me in their beams

Then I’ll be on my way at last
Find a future, lose a past
Waiting silent as the passion in me screams

Big dreams and faded jeans
Fit together like a team
Always busting at the seams
Big dreams and faded jeans

May the stars that fill my eyes
Guide my path and be my light
And may God provide the means
To accomplish my big dreams, my big dreams

Big dreams and faded jeans
Fit together like a team
Always busting at the seams
Big dreams and faded jeans

Like the song “Bobby McGee” (freedom’s just another word)
I’m just longin’ to be free (to be free)
Take me where I wanna be
Big dreams and faded jeans

And there are many just like me
With big dreams and faded jeans
Mmh-mm-mm-mm
Mmh-mm-mm-mm
Big dreams, big dreams and faded jeans

Oh-oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh-oh
I’m just longing to be free
Take me where I wanna be
Big dreams and faded jeans
