Past, Present and Future Events

2010, 2009 and 2008 Summer Camp: Camp Moss Hollow: Rising 5th grades experienced the 5 Needs during the summer camp and learned how to identify their needs and ways to meet them that are appropriate. Fauquier County bought each child a workbook to bring home and work in it after camp.

2010: Wendy spoke with the staff at Phoenix Family Counseling & Play Therapy Center in Gainsville, Virginia.

2010: Wendy presented The 5 Needs In Life at Chrysalis Counseling Center in Culpeper, Virginia.

Here are a few examples of what and where...

The 5 Needs in Life has been used with individuals, groups, in schools, homes, classrooms, "opt-out" trainings, with families, tweens, teens, women and children over the past few years.

Pierce Elementary School has a girls group and a boys group with The 5 Needs in Life as the focus in the 2009-2010 school year.

Pearson Elementary: A girls group and a mothers group are forming now; The 5 Needs program is the base the group will build from.

Fauquier High School: The 5 Needs will be taught in the Job Training Program once again (This has occurred for the past several years).

2009 and 2008: Alternative Summer Program: rising 9th graders were taught about the 5 needs during their summer program once again. Through interactive exercises they were able to identify their needs and express ways they can meet the needs that are right and healthy.

Also, The 5 Needs in Life have been used with:

Truancy PreventionPearson Elementary in Catlett, Virginia, . The 5 Needs was the foundation of a program called: "I AM HERE: Improving Attendance Monthly Helps Everyone Receive an Education", this was a collaborative initiative piloted with great success last year at H.M. Pearson Elementary. I AM HERE uses a team approach by involving community agencies, school representatives, parents and students. Through attachment and achievement, parents are made to feel a stronger connection with their child’s school. The 5 Needs in Life program was used as the curriculum in the "I AM HERE" program at Pearson Elementary. The children worked with the school counselor and the parents worked with the school social worker in separate groups, learning about the same need each week; at the end of each session the children came to the parents group and demonstrated what they learned about the specific needs discussed that week.

Training was offered for administrators, school social workers, school counselors, teachers, and others involved with attendance in schools.

Something else: Counselors, teachers and Social Workers who use The 5 Needs materials find there are a variety of ways to use the workbooks. Contact us for more information.

The 5 Needs in Life
materials were shown at the National Council of Adoptable Children in Tampa, Florida and the response was incredible. Using The 5 Needs workbooks can help to heal wounds and build communication in families who experience adoption and foster care.

Roanoke, VA;  Wendy presented The 5 Needs at: The Annual Conference: Virginia Association of Visiting Teachers and School Social Workers; the year theme is School Success through Collaboration.  October 14-17, 2007.
